How Compassion in World Farming - Ireland campaigns

Compassion in World Farming - Ireland campaigns for improved farm animal welfare standards in Ireland. We lobby politicians and the Irish Government for improved animal welfare laws, and do all we can to ensure that existing farm animal welfare legislation is complied with. We raise public awareness about farm animal welfare issues, and ask consumers to use their "consumer power" to encourage shops to stock welfare-friendly produce. We produce educational materials and urge people to inform themselves about farm animal welfare. We also highlight particular farm animal welfare issues through the media.

Compassion in World Farming - Ireland is represented on the Irish Government's Farm Animal Welfare Advisory Council and we play a very active role on this Council.

Changes in the lawChanges in the law.

Compassion in World Farming - Ireland, in co-operation with our collegues in other countries, is campaigning for improved Irish and EU laws to protect farm animals. Now that the EU has recognised animals as 'sentient beings' (sentient beings can suffer and feel pain, and also can enjoy a sense of well-being), Compassion in World Farming is doing all it can to make sure that the systems and practices that cause farm animals suffering and pain are banned, and improved high-welfare systems are used instead.

Working with politiciansWorking with politicians.

Compassion in World Farming - Ireland is working with politicians in Ireland and in Europe to improve welfare conditions for farm animals. We send information on farm animal welfare to politicians, particularly if a farm animal welfare issue is under discussion or coming up for a vote. We provide politicians with information that enables them to support initiatives that will result in higher welfare for farm animals.
